Texas Hold'em- The Importance of Position
One of the most important factors in Texas Hold'em Poker games is the position, even though most people ignore it because they do not realize its great importance.
Unlike other Poker games, the position really matters in Texas Hold'em. Here are examples of how your position in the game can change the way the game goes for you, There are seven named positions in a ten handed Texas Hold'em game: the small blind, the big blind, under the gun (UTG), early, middle, late, button, we will consider each of them in detail:
Small Blind: the player to the left of the dealer is the one who gets to determine the small blind bet, the blind bet is the bet that is determined before any cards are dealt, which is where it gets its name, since when the blind bet is set, it is completely unknown how the game will go.
Big Blind: The second case in which the position matters is when the big blind bet is determined; the big blind bet is determined by the player on the left of the player who determined the small blind bet, the big blind bet is very important because it is considered to be the lower limit for all the bets.
Under The Gun (UTG): the player who acts right after the big blind.
Early: The two players who act after Under the Gun (UTG) player.
Middle: The two players after early.
Late: The two players after middle.
Button: The player with the dealing button.
The more you know the better it is for you when playing poker which means that you can make informed decisions on how to play.
For that reason the late positions are much better, for you will have the knowledge in a late position what the other players are willing to do already, you can guess the strength of their hands from their betting. You can also have the final word of raising the bet to a certain limit, unlike the early players who would not know how the bet will end up. So the strategy for a poker Texas Hold'em player sitting in a late position should be observing closely how each player acts with the betting, and if they bet too high with too much confidence the player has the chance to fold.
The strategy for a player sitting in the early positions is much different they should be ready for re-raises, and unless their hand is strong enough they should fold.
